General Burnside Island: General Burnside Island State Park was named for the sideburn-whiskered Civil War general Ambrose Burnside. Burnside led patrols along the Cumberland River, circling this 400-acre island while on the look out for Confederate soldiers. General Burnside Island State Park is currently undergoing a complete renovation for a brand new 18-hole golf course, and driving range, designed by Brian Ault.

Cumberland Falls State Park: Cumberland Falls is a hiker's paradise with 17 miles of hiking trails that wind through the park to scenic areas. The Moonbow Trail connects with many backpacking trails in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Known as the "Niagara of the South," the 125-foot wide curtain of water is dramatic day or night. But it's only at night during a full moon that you can see the moonbow, a phenomenon not found anywhere else in the Western Hemisphere. Visit their website for specific moonbow dates.

The Big South Fork of the Cumberland River and remnants from the communities that once lined the railway now serve as reminders of days gone by."
